Pixel Ruler
The first thing you are going to like is that the Pixel Ruler download weighs in at a mere 605KB. At such a lightweight download size, it will only take a moment to get the application off the web and onto your computer. Even on a lousy internet connection it won’t take long for the download to complete.
Next up you are going to like that installing the application on a Windows-powered computer is a simple, 6-step process. I particularly liked the way the installer looks. It tells you how many steps are left and even displays an install progress percentage. I also liked that I was asked where to install Pixel Ruler (some applications don’t bother with that) and that I was asked if I would like Pixel Ruler to automatically run at startup and if I would like a desktop shortcut (some applications don’t bother with this either.
I mentioned above that installing the application on a Windows-powered computer is a simple process. Speaking of the Windows operating system, it should be mentioned that Pixel Ruler provides support for just about any Windows version, from the latest and greatest Windows 7, down to the much avoided Vista, and down to the old but popular XP. The list doesn’t stop with XP, it goes on with older Windows versions; I decided to stop there because XP is old enough (the operating system was released back in 2001, which is old enough).
What can you do with the Pixel Ruler application once it has been installed on your PC? What sort of functionality does this application have to offer? The simple answer is that Pixel Ruler is a virtual ruler that you can use to measure pixels. The blue Pixel Ruler can be dragged and dropped anywhere on your screen. By default it is displayed horizontally. If you click it, it will be displayed vertically. If you right click it, it will go away.
You can use the Pixel Ruler to application to count pixels free of charge for as long as you want. Please note that after 50 uses, a dialog box with a link to purchase a license will be displayed at startup. You can ignore this dialog box and keep using Pixel Ruler if you don’t want to get a license. But by getting a license, which is not expensive at all, you are supporting the development of this application.
